A problematic episode for the Free Range Preacher. Every sincere person who speaks forth the word of God in any context understands we are wholly inadequate to teach the word of God.
Some moments are punctuated by the Holy Ghost, as the teacher speaks to themself first. So it is in this episode. Yet as I say that, if I had the power, I would make every believer develop a sincere, Biblical, dynamic, soul-satisfying prayer life.
Why? You may be asking.
As it regards prayer, this obedience, if it's brought me this much joy and affection, this much holy fear of the Lord, hope in what he's doing love for the Lord and for other people, hatred for sin, desire, and joy, sorrow, and gratitude and compassion and zeal for him. If it's brought me this much healing to my soul, I can't imagine living without that close communion in prayer. And as children of God, there's no reason that we should, or that we have to; it's there for us.
And yet, I long for the devotion of our sister Mary in Luke 7.
The little flock of God, be Blessed.
"The consideration of these things has long engaged me to attend to this matter, with the utmost diligence and care, and exactness of search and inquiry, that I have been capable of. It is a subject on which my mind has been peculiarly intent, ever since I first entered on the study of divinity. But as to the success of my inquiries it must be left to the judgment of the reader of the following treatise." - Jonathan Edwards.
