Our Extended Ryle: A Call to Prayer All the Means Necessary

Our Extended Ryle: A Call to Prayer All the Means Necessary

Bishop Ryle's key sentence for our meditation in this episode is:

"Of course I do not say we have a right to expect a miraculous grant of intellectual gifts; but this I do say, that when a man is once converted to God, his progress in holiness will be much in accordance with his own diligence in the use of God's appointed means."

He invites further consideration is:

And I assert confidently that the principal means by which most believers have become great in the church of Christ is the habit of diligent private prayer."

My Two cents:

Although I do not have experience in greatness, my desire is the psalm that says, Thy gentleness makes me great. Knowing continually and increasingly my Savior is my heart's desire. The chief reason God created everything is His glory. Our chief reason for prayer is or will be His glory. Our longing hearts, however, are sustained and burst forth with joy and peace even in this sojourn of sorrows through diligent private prayer. (i.e., a growing, Biblical, dynamic, sincere, soul-satisfying, God-glorifying communion with Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

I suggest you listen to Ryle first and believe him now and later.

"What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more."
