Another day in the paddock, and what a joy to continue with J.C. Ryle in his book, "A Call to Prayer."

Part two of the Bishop's commendation to be grateful children of God.

He continues with his reminder that our lives are "of His mercies."

"It is of mercy that we still live and have opportunities of glorifying God actively or passively. Surely these thoughts should crowd on our minds whenever we speak with God. Surely we should never open our lips in prayer without blessing God for that free grace by which we live, and for "that loving kindness which endureth for ever. Never was there an eminent saint who was not full of thankfulness. St. Paul hardly ever writes an epistle without beginning with thankfulness. Men like Whitefield in the last century, and Bickersteth in our time, abounded in thankfulness. Oh, reader, if we would be bright and shining lights in our day, we must cherish a spirit of praise. Let our prayers be thankful prayers."

Keys for the Principal (your host):

"It is of mercy that we still live and have opportunities of glorifying God actively or passively."

I sometimes wonder why I am here and not in heaven, but it is mercy that I have one more day to seek His holiness and to glorify Him with my heart, mind, soul, and strength.

"St. Paul hardly ever writes an epistle without beginning with thankfulness."

Where Paul prays, he is thankful.

"Oh, reader, if we would be bright and shining lights in our day, we must cherish a spirit of praise."

Grateful Christians with a spirit of praise are, by nature, winsome.

Do all things without grumbling or disputing; 15 that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,

I rejoice and share my joy with you all. 18 And you too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me.

Philippians 2:14-15& 17b-18.
