We ended in the eleventh, looking at our perseverance in prayer, noting here, so far, that Ryle is campaigning for our daily conversation with the Holy God.
We begin today continuing on that theme, listening to Ryle as he says:
“I do not maintain that prayers should always be of the same length; but I do say, let no excuse make you give up prayer.”
And of course, once we get through the fits and starts and enter into the true deep converse with Our Savior, we have, because of circumstance (hospital), may miss our God for a very short period, “but the joy we share as we tarry there” will bring us running back into His presence as soon as we are able.
“Never forget that you may tie together morning and evening devotions, by an endless chain of short ejaculatory prayers throughout the day. Even in company, or business, or in the very streets, you may be silently sending up little winged messengers to God, as Nehemiah did in the very presence of Artaxerxes.”
But this is the most crucial paragraph, I believe our perseverance in prayer comes next:
“And never think that time is wasted which is given to God. A nation does not become poorer because it loses one year of working days in seven, by keeping the Sabbath. A Christian never finds he is a loser, in the long run, by persevering in prayer.”
Our goal here, building growing, Biblical, dynamic, sincere, consistent prayer lives, will, without doubt, glorify God, line us up with His perfect will, and lift our souls in ravished delight, which goes beyond what we could ever conceive before learning to pray.
Without fear of letting you down, pursue prayer and your community with God; never give up until you know Him; your delight will be filled up to overflowing.
