J.C. Ryle breaches two central concepts in praying with faith.
Believing God hears and answers and:
We are moved to pray His promises.
"I commend to you the importance of praying with faith. We should endeavor to believe that our prayers are heard, and that if we ask things according to God's will, we shall be answered. This is the plain command of our Lord Jesus Christ: "Whatsoever things ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them" (Mark 11:24).
Faith is to prayer what the feather is to the arrow: without it prayer will not hit the mark. We should cultivate the habit of pleading promises in our prayers."
"We should take with us some promise, and say, "Lord, here is thine own word pledged. Do for us as thou hast said." This was the habit of Jacob Moses, and David. The 119th Psalm is full of things asked, 'according to thy word.'
"The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the sky poured rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
James 5:16b-18”
Which is more challenging to believe? "Some day you will have a son, or "God is able to raise men even from the dead?"
"By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac; and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; 18 it was he to whom it was said, "IN ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS SHALL BE CALLED." 19 He considered that God is able to raise men even from the dead; from which he also received him back as a type."
Hebrews 11:17-19
Faithful are the promises of the power of God. God is not a man, that he should lie.
Pray the promises of God.
"What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more."
