J.C. Ryle reminds us once again:
"I commend then to your attention, the importance of reverence and humility in prayer. Let us never forget what we are, and what a solemn thing it is to speak with God. Let us beware of rushing into his presence with carelessness and levity. Let us say to ourselves: "I am on holy ground. This is no other than the gate of heaven."
Of course, he is correct, but I had to interject just a bit.
I went through the prayers of the New Testament before recording, and no matter the prayer, my soul was lifted up in great, sometimes giddy joy.
We do enter the throne room of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords to do eternal business, yet in that somber business, we have great joy.
Duty: To bring eternal prayers to the Father with the weight of eternity.
Glory: We glory in His power and are humbled; we are privileged to pray for His will and people.
Excellency: Our joy is complete when we see His glorious answers, and we are overjoyed to know we are privileged to obey.
We enter the throne room in somber petition and leave our inner man dancing like David, in worshiping the Holy God who answers prayers.
"What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more."
