A couple points of business:
The donation links for the podcast are at the top of the descriptions if you would like. After our November Thanksgiving break, we will move the link to the bottom, but we will still have the link. Thank you to those who have already used the button. It is much appreciated.
At the end of October, we will take the next off and resume on November 8 with a short series on Thanksgiving.
After Thanksgiving, we will take another week off and officially begin year number 6 on December 1! (Six years by God’s grace and mercies!)
On day 25 of our October Surprise, we continue with J.C. Ryle and his “A Call to Prayer,” with His call to watchfulness in prayer.
He asserts:
“I commend to you the importance of watchfulness over your prayers. Prayer is that point in religion at which you must be most of all on your guard. Here it is that true religion begins; here it flourishes, and here it decays. Tell me what a man’s prayers are, and I will soon tell you the state of his soul. Prayer is the spiritual pulse. By this the spiritual health may be tested. Prayer is the spiritual weatherglass. By this we may know whether it is fair or foul with our hearts.”
We are reminded that no one in the Bible ever asked, “Why pray?”
Not:
Joseph, at the birth of his sons, nor Daniel when informed of God’s plan. Nehemiah when he heard the trouble in Jerusalem, Hezekiah when threatened by Syria, and then again in his war and sickness. David, Korah, Hannah, Paul, Peter, the early church. Moses, Daniel, David, Paul, James, the writer of Hebrews, and the apostle John all shout without voice our need to have communion with the God who redeemed us by His blood.
Our substance, our victory is won by our community with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
"What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more."
