October Surprise 2022: A Call to Prayer Day 11

October Surprise 2022: A Call to Prayer Day 11

October 11, 2022 - Inspired by J.C. Ryle’s treatise on Prayer.

The extended introduction for our October episodes ends at the 7:20 mark, and while there is some benefit (I believe) in listening to it again, if you would like, you can fast forward to that mark and begin the episode.

John Charles Ryle (JC) writes:

“I study the reports of missionary societies in our own times. I see with joy that heathen men and women are receiving the gospel in various parts of the globe. There are conversions in Africa, in New Zealand, in Hindustan, in China. The people converted are naturally unlike one another in every respect. But one striking thing I observe at all the missionary stations: the converted people always pray.”

This is the most challenging paragraph yet, and working through it turned out to be extended. We found five reasons which can get in the way of our prayer life.

Not in any particular order:

1. Being an American problem.

2. Saved from religions of works, not a relationship.

3. Getting used to talking to the God who is not seen.

4. The wrong perspective on prayer.

5. Letting standards you haven’t grown into keeping you from praying.

You can make the podcast better by sharing your strengths and weaknesses in prayer with us so we can speak more specifically of what you may need.
