From time to time, through circumstances, trials mostly, but sometimes fighting my own unworthy thoughts, I find it very hard to give thanks.
I have developed two fallback positions, I call them, in which I am always able to Give thanks.
I am continually thankful that He is my Creator:
The encouragement of Isaiah 40:28
28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. 29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. 30 Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31 Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
This promise flows from the truth that He is our God, and we are the sheep of His pasture.
Next, He is my Savior:
Luke 1:46-50
And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. 48 “For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed. 49 “For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name. 50 “AND HIS MERCY IS UPON GENERATION AFTER GENERATION TOWARD THOSE WHO FEAR HIM.
Even in the deepest darkest places I have ever been, I can reflect with Mary; I am blessed. I believe in heaven, we will look at all the generations, and we will confess to the glory of God, what great things God has done for us.
Perhaps you have those fallback positions of thanksgiving. If you do not, maybe you can find some, even starting to thank God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that He is your Creator and Savior.
