Jesus Teaches Prayer 3 - Not as Hypocrites a
Matthew 6:5-6
5 “And when you pray, you are not to be as the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners, in order to be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 6 “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will repay you.”
The first encouraging application of these verses is, we, in reality, are entering into the very throne room of God Almighty to commune with Him. The sweetest prayer times we will ever have come when understand we have God’s full attention, and we know His loving presence. As we practice His presence and give ourselves over to the reality of Him, we will learn as David learned:
Psalm 16:11
11 Thou wilt make known to me the path of life; In Thy presence is fulness of joy; In Thy right hand there are pleasures forever.
We are not as the hypocrites who pray to be heard by men, but our motivation is to have His ear every time we pray.
