Feature: Psalm 119:97-104 - Love the Law of the Lord

To expand on the privilege it is to talk about prayer with you, I prefaced our reading today with:

So often do I say this. It might sound like routine spoken without true meaning. In fact, there are times when I record and think I was too excited during parts of this episode. In what we often expect to hear from others, I do not sound excited; I have to pray at all times that the Holy Spirit communicates the energy His word brings to my soul.

But it occurred to me this morning, in the last 6 years, I have been close to death:

By pneumonia;

By a failing heart valve;

Heart attack,

Stroke,

And most recently, a poisoned liver

So when I mention the privilege, joy, contentment, fear of being an unworthy slave, and gratitude for the time I have left, to exhort God’s people to the stabilizing prayer life we all need, however weak I am in my verbalization my soul rejoices, and I am moved more than ever before to redeem the times in finishing my course.

Sadly, but in truth, I am not as zealous as I should be and beset with selfishness about my time, and I pursue too many unfruitful entertainments.

From time to time, I have asked for your prayer. Today, I ask your prayers that I would be more doggedly pursuing His will for my finish.

Thank you as you might remember to supplicate for me in that regard.

Mem

Psalm 119:97-104

97 O how I love Thy law! It is my meditation all the day.

98 Thy commandments make me wiser than my enemies, For they are ever mine.

99 I have more insight than all my teachers, For Thy testimonies are my meditation.

100 I understand more than the aged, Because I have observed Thy precepts.

101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way, That I may keep Thy word.

102 I have not turned aside from Thine ordinances, For Thou Thyself hast taught me.

103 How sweet are Thy words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104 From Thy precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.

And since He bids me seek His face,

Believe His Word and trust His grace,

I'll cast on Him my every care,

And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!"
