Reading David ( a few years back) say, Thy gentleness makes me great, from Psalm 18:35, threw me for a minor loop, for gentleness was not in the top ten attributes of God in my mind.
It is reasonable, therefore, we have the witness of Jesus:
17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. 18 No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.
John 1:17-18
We look today at two of those tender moments in the New Testament through Jesus our Lord enlightening us of the Gentleness of God.
28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 "For My yoke is easy, and My load is light."
Matthew 11:28-30
His call to the people who would crucify Him.
And…
21 And looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him, and said to him, "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." 22 But at these words his face fell, and he went away grieved, for he was one who owned much property.
Mark 10:21-22
His call to the Rich young man who could claim adherence to the whole Law of God…save the first precept of that Law, you shall have no other gods before you.
We meditate on the kindness and gentleness of our call to salvation.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I'll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!"
