We are back, live, so to speak, to the table, chatting to God’s people about the great and wonderful blessing and opportunity of prayer, communion with God Almighty El Elyon (God Most High).
I did want to make our first Simi-lengthy episode a personal one, which is why we began with some thoughts from Richard Baxter’s book, The Saint’s Everlasting Rest.
Richard Baxter exhorts us to rest now..
From the text Hebrews 4:9
There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God; Baxter gives full treatment of the idea.
We lift from His introduction:
“O the wisdom and goodness of our blessed Lord! He hath created the understanding with a natural bias and inclination to truth, as its object; and to the prime truth, as its prime object. Christian, when, after long gazing heaven-ward, thou hast got a glimpse of Christ, dost thou not sometimes seem to have been with Paul in the third heaven, whether in the body or out, and to have seen what is unutterable? Art thou not, with Peter, ready to say, “Master, it is good to be here?” “O that I might dwell in this mount!”
We then dedicate our souls to the knowledge we can experience everlasting life even now. The development of our pursuit of God through study and prayer means gaining eternal rest beginning now and being realized in heaven.
Invariably, my plea, God will apply the valuable words and induce all to forget what is unworthy to reinforce your communion with our Creator, Savior, Sustainer, even Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I'll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!"
