Devotional 60: God Challenges Ezekiel (and us)

Devotional 60: God Challenges Ezekiel (and us)

“The consideration of these things has long engaged me to attend to this matter, with the utmost diligence and care, and exactness of search and inquiry, that I have been capable of. It is a subject on which my mind has been peculiarly intent, ever since I first entered on the study of divinity. But as to the success of my inquiries it must be left to the judgment of the reader of the following treatise.”

I have come to love it when God challenges His people. God challenged Job with affliction. He challenged Abraham with waiting. Isiah 7 of the virgin birth's great promise was a challenge to Ahaz, who refused to ask. In Malachi 3:10, God challenged Israel to stop holding back the offerings born of faith and obedience. Even though those last two have the character of rebukes, God does Challenge His people.

Our wonder at our Creator, God, and Savior only increases when He challenges us in like manner as He did Ezekiel:

1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones. 2 And He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were very dry. 3 And He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?"…

Ezkiel 37:1-3

How would you answer?

Zeke (I love Ezekiel like I met him.) said:

And I answered, "O Lord GOD, Thou knowest."

Our souls are lifted with joy and expectation as we reflect on what we will learn with Ezekiel of God's Holy nature, His power, His glory, His purpose, and His love.

Have faith to say, O Adonai Elohiem, Thou knowest.

Glory to God in the highest.
