The Eurythmics Sing the Gospel.
With my music on random, I set off a few days ago for my morning constitutional; in the olden days, thats what we called going out for a walk. I was ready to listen to whatever came from my library when I was waylaid by an old song, realizing the unlikely group was singing about the gospel!
The Eurythmics unintentionally gave the gospel in 1986!
"Well, I was born an original sinner.
I was borne from original sin.
And if I had a dollar bill
For all the things I've done
There'd be a mountain of money
Piled up to my chin."
The phrase is an intuitive Biblical truth. Sounds like David…
"For my iniquities are gone over my head; As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me."
Psalm 38:4
David-A missionary man.
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"
Romans 3:24a
Paul-A Missionary man.
The central theme of the sinfulness of mankind is our unswerving dedication to self and putting each of ourselves at the center of all things. This sentiment is aptly put by the singer's mother:
My mother told me good
My mother told me strong.
She said, "Be true to yourself
And you can't go wrong."
The Bible actually echos this self-righteous predilection:
Rejoice, young man, during your childhood, and let your heart be pleasant during the days of young manhood. And follow the impulses of your heart and the desires of your eyes. Yet know that God will bring you to judgment for all these things.
Ecclesiastes 11:9
Solomon-A Missionary Man.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death,
Paul-A Missionary Man.
However, there is a messenger of good news.
"But there's just one thing
That you must understand."
"You can fool with your brother
But don't mess with a missionary man…"
Well, the missionary man
He's got God on his side.
He's got the saints and apostles.
Backin' up from behind.
Black-eyed looks from those Bible books.
He's a man with a mission.
Got a serious mind…
The missionary man he was followin' me.
He said, "Stop what you're doing."
"Get down upon your knees."
"I've a message for you that you better believe."
The message: as above, do what you want, but know judgment is coming, and our wages without a Savior is death.
But the Savior paid the price for you and I…
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Paul-A Missionary man.
"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."
Acts 4:12
Peter-A missionary man.
Summary:
The Bible is clear -
Listen… please.
