A Layman’s Look at the Whole Bible. - Necessary Attitudes for Reading God’s Word. (Introduction)

Before we Get to Genesis 1:1, we must begin with faith and humility. The word of God is incredible in food for our spiritual growth and the comfort of our souls.

Unless we approach the word in faith and humility and miss God’s instruction, we will also stunt our spiritual maturity in malnutrition.

Humility and faith that the word of God is written to the Church and us individually make God’s Word most effective.

Psalm 19:9-11

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether. 10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them Thy servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.

Psalm 119:103-105

How sweet are Thy words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 From Thy precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. 105 Thy word is a lamp to my feet, And a light to my path.

2 Timothy 3:14-15

You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them; 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 4:12-13

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

2 Corinthians 5:7-10

for we walk by faith, not by sight— 8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. 9 Therefore also we have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

The key to Bible study is to know by faith (and experience will prove it) and to be humble enough to believe and submit to it.

Prayer for our hearts.
